Message from the Chair: June 2026

The month of June is always packed full of end-of-year events, and this year is no exception! Academic Day on June 3 was a huge success! Read the highlightsÌý²¹²Ô»å view the photo gallery.

At the end of the day, we congratulated all our R2s in their Graduation Ceremony, seeÌýphoto gallery. Many thanks to the administrative teams who organized both events (Andrew, Ania, Julie, Nina, Marie, Alana, and Talithea).

This month there are many departmental kudos I would like to highlight:

  • Dr. Julie Massé was named to the Faculty Honour List for Educational Excellence on June 4th. .
  • Dr. Guylène Theriault was named Family Physician of the Year by the Collège Québécois des Médecins de Famille on June 5th. Read here.
  • Dr. Elise Boulanger became CQMF president for a two-year term .
  • Dr. Dana A. Saleh received the Geeta Ishwar Gupta Resilience Prize at the resident graduation ceremony on June 3rd. Read here.
  • Dr. Douglass Dalton and Dr. Michelle Lajzerowicz were winners of the J. Donald Boudreau Physicianship award from 91ºÚÁÏÍø. (link incoming)
  • Dr. Pierre Paul Tellier is co-editor of the new WONCA book Working with Adolescents and Young Adults in General Practice: A Guide for Family Physicians. .

I was deeply saddened to hear that Dr. Michael Klein passed away on June 10, one week shy of his 88th birthday. He was a pioneering family physician whose career began in our department in the 1970s, and a clinician teacher researcher who had a lasting impact on maternity care in Canada and beyond. .

Dr. Howard Bergman, the former chair of our department, together with The Simone and Edouard Schouela Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health of Seniors, is launching the Bergman/Pilon Lectureship in Aging.ÌýThe Department of Family Medicine is very pleased to be involved in the following two activities:

  • November 2: The Inaugural Bergman/Pilon Lectureship in Aging: When Care Comes First: Reimagining Medicine, Medical Ethics, and the Medical Humanities with Dr. Arthur Kleinman. Info.
  • November 4: The Soul of Care with Dr. Arthur Kleinman. This book club–style discussion will be taking place at 12-1.30 pm in the department (also available hybrid). Info.

91ºÚÁÏÍø Summer Fridays start June 26, and our administrative staff will be out of the office on Fridays until August 21Ìýinclusive. As a result, activity within the Department may be somewhat reduced and there will be no July edition of the newsletter; the next issue will be published at the end of August. We wish everyone well-earned rest and relaxation during the summer holiday season!

Very warmly as always,

Marion
