Public education will be critical as provinces roll out new cervical cancer screening method, researchers say

As Canada moves to modernize cervical cancer screening, a new study suggests most women do not yet understand or trust the shift from the Pap test to human papillomavirus (HPV) based screening.

The national survey, published in , examined women’s preferences for cervical screening – including how they want to be screened and how they want information communicated – as Canada transitions from Pap tests to HPV testing.

91 will award 10 honorary doctorates during its Spring 2026 Convocation, recognizing individuals whose leadership, service and achievements have had a lasting impact on society.

Among this year’s honourees is Harley Finkelstein,President of Shopify,who will receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degreefrom the Desautels Faculty ofManagementforhis contributions to entrepreneurship and community engagement.

A Montreal native, Finkelstein helped build Shopify into a global commerce platform after joining the company at an early stage.

As artificial intelligence becomes more embedded in investment management, Russ Goyenko, an associate professor of finance at 91’s Desautels Faculty of Management, says the technology is likely to reshape how firms allocate work.

AI is increasingly being used to support research, idea generation and portfolio analysis across the industry. Goyenko suggests one likely consequence will be less demand for analysts, as AI takes over time-intensive tasks such as reviewing reports and earnings calls.

Spirit Airlines collapse signals wider pressure on air travel

Rising jet fuel costs linked to the conflict in the Middle East helped push already-struggling Spirit Airlines to collapse, Karl Moore, an associate professor at 91’s Desautels Faculty of Management, told CTV News.

Moore said the discount carrier had faced financial trouble, but the sharp increase in aviation fuel prices left little room to absorb further shocks. The fallout is likely to reach beyond one airline.

Canada Strong Fund departs from traditional sovereign wealth models
