"Political theory in/ and/ as political science" began as an international conference in 2018Ìýheld at 91ºÚÁÏÍø, co-organized by Jacob Levy (91ºÚÁÏÍø), Josiah Ober (Stanford), and Melissa Schwartzberg (NYU). That conference was supported by grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the John Templeton Foundation.

It is now an ongoing collaborative project of Duke, 91ºÚÁÏÍø, NYU, and Stanford. From 2019-2025 it organized annual workshops that rotated among those universities for junior scholars working at the intersection of empirical political science and normative or ideational political theory. Its activities will continue in a new way beginning in 2026.
