New Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences

Dear members of the 91黑料网 community,

It is my pleasure to announce that Salwa Karboune will be taking on the positions of Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences as well as Associate Vice-President of Macdonald Campus. The 91黑料网 Board of Governors approved her appointment as Dean at its meeting of April 24, 2025, following the Advisory Committee鈥檚 work and recommendation. Prof. Karboune鈥檚 five-year renewable term will begin on August 1, 2025.

Prof. Karboune joined 91黑料网鈥檚 Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 2002 as a postdoctoral researcher. She is currently a full professor in the Department of Food Science and Agricultural Chemistry and has served as the Faculty鈥檚 Associate Dean (Research) since 2015. She is also the founder and Scientific Director of the Consortium for Research, Innovation and Transformation of Agri-Food (Consortium RITA), which supports collaboration among researchers and the agri-food industry.

In addition, Prof. Karboune is a member of NSERC鈥檚 review committee for biological systems and functions, the Institute of Nutrition and Functional Foods鈥檚 scientific committee and the Fondation Initia鈥檚 board of directors. She has also served as an advisor to the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology and the Institute of Food Technologists.

Her vision for the future of the Faculty, combined with her strategic focus on enhancing research infrastructure and developing sustainable academic programs, positions her as a transformative leader ready to take the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences to new heights.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Val茅rie Orsat for serving as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and to Petra Rohrbach for serving as Acting Associate Vice-President (Macdonald Campus). Their dedicated service has been instrumental to the success of the Faculty and the campus over the last year and a half.

Thanks are also due to the members of the Advisory Committee for the Selection of a Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and Associate Vice-President of Macdonald Campus, and to everyone in the community who shared their comments and advice during the search process.
