Incidents of violence in public transit systems are on the rise across Canada, according to a collaborative report from CBC and the Investigative Journalism Foundation. The report says that between 2016鈥�2024, transit systems in eight of the country鈥檚 10 largest cities have seen the number of assaults double. Rates have tripled in Winnipeg. The highest number of assaults took place in Toronto.

November 25, 2025 |听Pearl Eliadis joined CBC鈥檚听Let鈥檚 Go听to discuss new findings from the Quebec Homelessness Prevention Policy Collaborative showing that the province has completed only 66% of the second-stage shelter units it committed to building for women fleeing violence. She explained that these shelters provide the stability and security women need to avoid returning to abusive partners and transition toward permanent housing.
