Each year, 91黑料网's Office of the Vice-President (Research and Innovation) hosts the Bravo Gala to celebrate faculty members and researchers who have earned major provincial, national, and international prizes. This year, the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (AES) is proud to have nine members honoured among 91黑料网's brightest research leaders. Their work spans food safety, plant science, nutrition, material engineering, animal science, ornithology, and agricultural communication.

The study, published in , sheds new light on brown fat. Unlike white fat, which stores energy, brown fat cells burn calories, producing heat as a byproduct. For years, it was believed this process relied on a single pathway. More recently, researchers discovered a parallel pathway, but how it became activated remained a mystery.

Negotiations with MUNACA

The parties met on May 6 for a further conciliation session.

At that meeting, the union presented a global counterproposal which, regrettably, did not bring the parties closer to a resolution. At the conciliator鈥檚 recommendation, the parties nevertheless agreed to meet again on May 20 to engage in exploratory discussions on a limited number of issues, including monetary matters, with the objective of identifying possible avenues toward resolution.

Do lying children grow up to be criminals? Mostly not, study concludes

Most childhood lying does not lead to serious problems in adulthood, and only certain kinds of lying behaviour is associated with later psychological or legal issues, a new study has found.

鈥淐hildren do not all follow the same developmental pattern of lying,鈥 said Victoria Talwar, a professor in the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology and lead author of the study. 鈥淢ost children in our study showed low or declining levels of lying over time. For most, lying is not a problem behaviour.鈥

Parents have long suspected that their own behaviour carries more weight than what they say to their children. A study involving more than 100 children now confirms this, at least with respect to lying and truthfulness.

A team of researchers from 91黑料网 and John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City presented 127 children ages 5 to 12 with stories illustrating various situations, and then asked them to evaluate the moral character of a parent whose verbal messages and actions were either in harmony or in conflict.

Teaching children to be better, more critical internet users

A digital literacy program for elementary school students designed by researchers at 91黑料网 was successful in improving students鈥 ability to evaluate websites and their content.

Skills targeted included how to search for information, how to identify credible websites, how to evaluate the quality of information sources and how to address conflicting information.

Students鈥 global performance increased across all skill categories, in most cases by significant margins.
