Royal College Accreditation News

As of January 1, 2024 MOC Section 1, 2 & 3 Requirements:

  • Total number of credits per 5 year cycle: reduced from 400 to 250;
  • Annual credit accumulation: reduced from 40 to 25;
  • MOC Section 3 maintains a requirement of a minimum of 25 credits at the end of the five-year cycle;
  • MOC Section 3 NEW name: Feedback and Improvement;
  • No longer a requirement: The former minimum of 25 credits for Section 1 and Section 2 will no longer be required.

The Continuing Professional Development Office – 91ºÚÁÏÍø School of Medicine will announce additional updates when provided by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

The individual CoIÌýdisclosures do not need to be stated ‘one per slide’ nor is it necessary to provide theÌýstatements via the PPT slides. You may provide the written disclosures via brochure,Ìýhandout, etc…

Application Fees

Once the certification/accreditation review has been completed, an invoice indicating allÌýfees (+ applicable taxes) linked to your activity will be submitted to you.

1. External to 91ºÚÁÏÍø:

91ºÚÁÏ꿉۪s Accounts Receivable Office will be sending you a detailed invoice with allÌýapplicable fees.

2. 91ºÚÁÏÍø Health Centre (MUHC) Departments:

We require a Purchase Order (PO) number (document) to generate the invoice. This isÌýalso a hospital policy. Please contact your Purchasing Department to obtain the POÌýdocumentation. Kindly issue the PO documentation under the Vendor/Supplier indicatedÌýbelow:

It is no longer permitted to make reference to the RCPSC, MOC Section 1, MOC Section 3,Ìýthe CFPC or Mainpro+ certification approval before the program officially receives approval.ÌýIt is not permitted to state or indicate that credits have been granted, are pending orÌýapplied for.

Accreditation/Certification wording is no longer permitted during the review period.


CQDPCM Code ofÌýEthics: CPD Activity (Planning,ÌýDeveloping,ÌýImplementing)

Effective JanuaryÌý2016

To develop and plan a CPD activity, in particular for activities being held in Quebec, ensureÌýto engage two (2) Committees:

  1. Scientific Committee;
  2. Organizing Committee.

Ìý

  • A physician organization must be involved in the development and/or co-developmentÌýof the activity;
  • The scientific committee must conduct a needs assessment of the target audienceÌýprior to selecting the presenters and topics;
  • The activity/presentations’ learning objectives must be defined according to the needsÌýassessment results;
  • There will be no industry influence over any of the planning aspects for this activity;
  • A minimum 25% of the activity will be defined as interactive learning;
  • Presenters will be provided with specific instructions regarding the criteria forÌýdisclosing conflicts of interest to participants;
  • Content will enclose generic product names. No commercial names are permitted, aÌýbalanced view of therapeutic options will be presented and will be free of commercialÌýbias;
  • All funds received in support of this activity will be provided in the form of anÌýeducational grant payable to the physician organization for management andÌýdisbursement;
  • Declaration of potential conflict of interest forms (COI) form will be completed by theÌýscientific and organizing committees and all resource persons involved in planning,Ìýdeveloping and implementing this activity.Ìý

CQDPCM Code ofÌýEthics (Marketing -ÌýPromotionalÌýMaterials -ÌýContent)

Applies to accredited and non-accredited activities held in Quebec:

  • Logos are not permitted, tagging is not permitted;
  • It is not permissible to include logos within the header or footer for PowerPoint slides,Ìýhandouts, etc.;
  • It is not permissible to use colors and/or color schemes commonly associated with aÌýcompany and/or one or more of its products for PowerPoint slides, handouts, etc.;
  • Funding organizations booths should be located in a separate room from conferenceÌýrooms where education content is being presented;
  • Funding organizations may be disclosed on materials not containing educationalÌýcontent;
  • Funding organizations must be listed together in one location (preferably the last pageÌýof the program) in the activity materials without logos; the names must all be the sameÌýsize and the same font;
  • Funding organizations may be acknowledged as follows: The program has received anÌýeducational grant from (funding company name(s)).
