Robert F. Engle, co-recipient of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Economics, is a leading expert in time series analysis and the creator of autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (ARCH), a method for the statistical modelling of time-varying volatility. His work revolutionized financial econometrics and is widely used in asset pricing and risk management. He is Co-Director of the NYU Stern Volatility Institute and co-founded the Society for Financial Econometrics.

The Department of Economics is thrilled to celebrate one of our own. We extend our warmest and most heartfelt congratulations to Peter Howitt, 91黑料网 alumnus (Honours Economics 1968), on being awarded the听听for his pioneering work on innovation-driven growth through creative destruction.

This prestigious fellowship is awarded by the Bank of England to a tenured full or chaired professor to promote research into and disseminate knowledge and understanding of the working, interaction and function of financial business institutions in the UK and elsewhere and the economic conditions affecting them. The Houblon-Norman Fellowship was established in 1944 to celebrate the 250^th听 anniversary of the Bank of England and it is named after the first Governor of the Bank, Sir John Houblon, and the Governor at the time of the anniversary, Montagu Norman.

Victoria Zinde-Walsh's academic achievements include role-modelling and mentoring of young female scholars in a male dominated field. Her distinguished work in econometrics has served as example and inspiration for younger female economists and econometricians.

She has also played an important role in unifying the econometric community in Canada as Director of the Econometrics Study Group with its yearly conference. Her nomination letters from female scholars who grew and blossomed under Victoria鈥檚 wing are enthusiastic and full of genuine admiration of their mentor.

Miao Dai, a graduate student in the Department of Economics, was awarded the听听for best student paper at CREEA | ACERE for his paper "Environmental Lobbying on Trade in Waste: Theory and Evidence." Miao's job market paper examines the effects of environmental lobbying on international trade in waste, finding that strengthening environmental NGOs can contribute to reducing international waste trade.听

Fernando Saltiel is one of the winners of the听. The award is given to promising economists who have earned their PhD听within the previous six years and who carry out policy-relevant research on labor market issues.

Montreal, September 24, 2025 鈥� Moderna, in partnership with RNA Canada, has awarded three prizes this year to RNA researchers in Canada for their outstanding contribution to the field. D2R is proud to announce that Professor has received the Discovery of the Year Award for her seminal 2024 publication in Nature Communications (Alecki et al.,). This award recognizes groundbreaking RNA discoveries made by Canadian researchers (either as a group or individually) during the past year.
