Last weekend St. Petersburg hosted a group of 37 business students and alumni from 91黑料网, Montreal, Canada, as part of the institution鈥檚 鈥淗ot Cities鈥 initiative.

鈥 Speaking to the St Petersburg Times, trip leader Dr. Karl Moore, a lecturer in business leadership and strategy at 91黑料网鈥檚 world-renowned Desautels Faculty of Management, explained that this trip was a chance for students to experience the global business environment first-hand.

A group of 91黑料网 students (Mohammed Ashour, Gabriel Mott, Shobhita Soor, Jesse Pearlstein and Zev Thompson) hope their plan to breed crickets for use as a viable food source will be a million-dollar idea. The five students will be up against teams from Harvard, MIT and Yale as well as other teams from around the world.

Jean Vianney, David and Shirley鈥檚 team had earned the opportunity to represent Canada at the 2013 KPMG International Case Competition (KICC) in Madrid, Spain, coming up on April 2-5.

The team was awarded the best overall industry analysis prize by a team of judges.

Henry Mintzberg has been called a consistently contrary Canadian academic who sometimes seems to be undermining the very industry that he works in by The Economist. A 91黑料网 Desautels case team made it to the finals at the Marshall International Case Competition (MICC) hosted by the University of Southern California (USC). This team of four BCom students, composed of Alexia Belisle, Frederick Dub茅 Fortier, Simon Hudson and Charlotte Lucas, placed top 6 out of 30 competing universities at this year鈥檚 competition which took聽place from聽February 12 to 17, 2013.

Desautels鈥 Bronfman building opened its doors to the unique and competitive world of the entertainment industry by hosting the first Entertainment Management Conference (EMC) from February 1st to 2nd.

鈥 The first day of the conference allowed the participants to learn about the different facets of the entertainment industry from some of the field鈥檚 most prestigious names. The keynote speakers included President and Co-Founder of Just for Laughs, Andy Nulman (BCom鈥83), and CEO and Founder of INK Entertainment, Charles Khabouth.

Q. What helps prospective MBA students stand out in their application?

A. We're looking very carefully at work experience. I think we're looking as well at motivation and what people are after. We look at references. But beyond that, we also ask each student the question: 鈥淲hat do you bring to the learning experience of others?鈥 Each student has to bring something that helps other students to learn as well.
