91ºÚÁÏÍø Society of Montreal presents "Olive Oil Tasting" - SOLD OUT!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009 18:00
Martlet House, 1430 Peel Street, Martlet House, 1430 Peel Street, Montreal, CA

For those who love olive oil for its many health benefits and variety of subtle tastes, this workshop offers both tasting pleasures and some surprises. If you'd like to learn more about the many facets of this small aromatic fruit, let host and olive expert Claudia Pharand take you through the olive groves of Spain and talk to you about olive varieties.

In this 90-minute presentation you will learn why extra virgin olive oil is so good for you and how it is produced. Don't be shocked to learn that cold-pressing is considered old hat and that there is serious fraud afoot in the worldwide olive oil market!

Claudia Pharand was already a wine collector with a keen awareness of terroir (how the characteristics of a land can affect the taste of an agricultural product), when she began to develop a similar interest in olive oils. During many journeys through Spain, the worlds largest producer of olives, Claudia met with local producers, connoisseurs and chemists who shared with her their knowledge of producing authentic extra virgin olive oils. Her growing passion led her to open Olive & Olives in Montreal in 2003 with partner Danièle Beauchamp, and the two now have several outlets in the Montreal area, including Olives & Épices at the Jean Talon Market. Space is limited, so please reserve early.
