Every day governments and communities across Canada come face to face with some of the most complex issues confronting our country: the effectiveness of health services, care for the elderly, poverty in First Nations communities, and support for families and children in distress. Social workers not only work with disadvantaged individuals and families, but many play an essential role in creating effective local and international policy. One of the world’s foremost experts on social policy will discuss international evidence on how to deliver social programs more effectively, and the relevance of this research to Canada.

Wendy Thomson, BSW’76, MSW’77, joined 91ºÚÁÏÍø in 2005 as Director of the School of Social Work and Professor of Social Policy. Prior to coming to the University, she had a distinguished career in the United Kingdom, including time as Tony Blair’s Chief Adviser on Public Service Reform. She continues to counsel governments in Canada and internationally on social policy. In addition, she serves on the boards of L’agence de la santé et des services sociaux de Montréal and the 91ºÚÁÏÍø Health Centre. Her current research focuses on child welfare and aboriginal education.

Please note that is available until September 16, 2008. After this date, only phone, fax and mailed-in registrations will be processed.
