1978- Solar, Wind, and Community Work

From 1978 to 1999, the Brace Institute focused on small-scale applications of solar and wind technologies, both within Canada and overseas. The Institute spearheaded community work, including the production of accessible technical resources (how-to guides) on solar and wind energy. The Institute also established ties with research centers in French West Africa and facilitated trainee exchanges.ÌýÌý

In Canada, work centered on greenhouses and food production infrastructure that could withstand northern winters. Key projects overseas included the creation of a windmill to provide irrigation water in Barbados, solar distillation work in Mauritania, and collaborative projects on renewable energies in Seychelles, Guatemala, and Brazil.Ìý
