Dr. Dragomir is an health economist and biostatistician with master degree in statistics and doctoral degree in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacoeconomics, from University of Montreal, Canada. She has 19 years of experience in academic research. She was involved in research projects focused on evaluation of health outcomes and health economics related to different treatment strategies, adherence to treatments, health services utilization and disease modeling in several fields, such as: hypertension, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, mental health diseases, and cancers. Her current research is focused on clinical and economic evaluation of different treatments strategies offered to patients with urological cancers. She has an extended experience in conducting studies based on administrative healthcare databases, such as RAMQ and Med-Echo, and conducting economic evaluation. Her research represents a valuable tool for decision-makers and clinician leaders when evaluating the clinical and economic impacts of innovative treatments.

Biography:

Dr. Cristian O’Flaherty is a professor in the Department of Surgery (Division of Urology) at 91�� and a medical scientist at the Research Institute of the 91�� Health Centre. He is also an associate member of the Departments of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Anatomy and Cell Biology, and Experimental Medicine, 91��. Dr. O’Flaherty was Co-Director of the 91�� Centre for Research in Reproduction and Development during 2018-2021. He is an associate editor of Andrology, Human Reproduction, and Antioxidants Journal and a member of the Editorial Board of the Biology of Reproduction.

With a background in the biology of reproduction, he holds a D.V.M and Ph.D. in animal physiology and biochemistry degrees from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. He completed his postdoctoral studies in sperm physiology and toxicology at the Urology Division and the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at 91��. He was awarded the Chercheur-boursier (Junior 2) award from the Fonds de la Recherche en Santé du Québec (FRSQ), and his research program has been and is currently funded by different agencies including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, FRQS and the Fonds de Recherche Nature et technologies. His research program focuses on male reproduction particularly on the molecular mechanisms involved in the production and function of healthy spermatozoa, sperm activation and the role of reactive oxygen species in sperm physiology and toxicology. His current work includes the use of mouse models and clinical studies in infertile men to elucidate the role of the antioxidant enzymes called peroxiredoxins in the regulation of sperm function using genomic, proteomic and biochemical approaches. Moreover, Dr. O’Flaherty’s laboratory is working on the molecular mechanism that regulates sperm activation and developing novel diagnostic and therapeutic tools for infertile men.

Biography:

I joined the 91�� Dept of Surgery as an Associate Professor in 1994 to become the director of new research facilities being built at the RI-MUHC of the Montreal General Hospital for the Urologic Oncology Research Team. We integrated the Cancer Research Program of the RI-MUHC at the Glen site in 2015. Being a prostate cancer scientist since the very beginning of my career, I became deeply involved in the creation of the pan-provincial PROCURE Prostate Cancer Biobank in 2007 and directed its operations for 10 years. I remain a consultant for matters related to the Biobank. We recently undertook a project aiming to prospectively interrogate tumours of specific subsets of patients in this cohort of 2,000 patients to identify molecular drivers of prostate cancer lethality and to trace best markers back in liquid biopsies throughout the disease trajectory of the same patients. This type of translational research has become of paramount importance to impact on outcome and death from prostate cancer. I am now a Senior Scientist and as such, I always gladly take time for patients who contact me to know more on ongoing research and novelties in the field of cancer, and particularly prostate cancer.
