Physiotherapy Considerations for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities and Special Needs is a one-day workshop within the Integrated Clinical Exercise Rehabilitation course of the 91�� Physiotherapy program.

Now in its eighth year, this interactive workshop brings 91�� physiotherapy students together with athletes from Special Olympics Québec for an engaging learning experience enjoyed by all.

At the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT), spring is a time to celebrate SPOT graduates and give kudos to those who have distinguished themselves. SPOT offers students awards, prizes, and fellowships at various points of their studies in the eight programs to honour academic excellence and exceptional achievements. Karen Falcicchio: Faculty Lecturer, Clinical Coordinator, and OT in General Medicine & Neurology

Karen Falcicchio, erg., OT Clinical Coordinator and Faculty Lecturer, is an alumna of the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy and previously worked at the Royal Victoria Hospital and the Montreal Neurological Institute in the areas of General Medicine and Neurology. As part of our Question-and-Answer series to showcase the 91�� Occupational Therapy program and illustrate the diversity of the profession, Karen recently answered these questions for us.

Joelle Jobin: Michif (Red-River Metis) Woman from Treaty 1 Territory, Manitoba, OT in Community Mental Health

Joelle Jobin, erg. entered the Occupational Therapy (OT) program via the qualifying year (QY) after completing a bachelor’s in arts at the University of Winnipeg. She received her Master of Science (Applied) in Occupational Therapy in 2023. During her studies she completed fieldwork in a private return to work clinic, a role emerging community placement in Chisasibi in The Cree Territory, an acute care placement at the Kateri Memorial Hospital in Kahnawake, and an outpatient mental health day program placement in the public sector.

Daniel Nguyen: Faculty Lecturer and OT Working in Long-term, Geriatric Care, and Return to Work

Daniel Nguyen, erg., completed his MSc (Applied) in Occupational Therapy in 2012. Since that time, he has worked in geriatric care in several long-term care settings within the CIUSSS Ouest-de-l’ile de Montreal, supervised 19 OT students, and is currently working in return-to-work. He has been a faculty lecturer at the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy since 2018.

Barbara Shankland: OT in the Area of Musculoskeletal and Hand and Upper Extremity Rehabilitation

Barbara Shankland is an Occupational Therapist (OT) with more than 30 years of experience in clinical practice and teaching in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation. She has lectured at local, provincial national, and European conferences as well as universities in Ontario and Quebec. She was the first certified hand therapist in Quebec and the recipient of the Prix d’Excellence from the Ordre des ergothérapeutes du Québec.
