Our colleagues are leading three of the funded projects: the 91�� Urban Climate Risk and Resilience Initiative (MUCRRI), Nature-based Climate Solutions for a Secure Canada (NbCS), and CanFlux: Canadian Greenhouse Gas Flux Network.

From Satellites to Sea Ice: GURA Student Investigates Arctic Patterns

Mr. Kingson Campbell just successfully completed his summer Geography Undergraduate Research Award (GURA) under the supervision of Dr. Mallik Mahmud. As part of the GURA, he focused on remote sensing of Arctic snow and sea ice: specifically analyzing satellite data across multiple years from a geographical perspective to identify patterns and correlations. Kingson’s research aimed to discern the optimal Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) frequency for sea ice by investigating radar signatures derived from multi-frequency SAR imagery over the Beaufort Sea in the Arctic.

Long dismissed as “junk,” viral fragments buried in human DNA may help regulate our genes, according to a new international study co-led by Guillaume Bourque, professor in 91��’s Department of Human Genetics, D2R-funded researcher and member of the D2R Research Steering Committee and Executive (RSC). The findings offer new insights into what makes us human, 25 years after the human genome was first mapped.

The 91�� Institute of Air and Space Law is pleased to announce the appointment of IASL Executive Director Stefan-Michael Wedenig as Assistant Professor (Professional) at the Faculty of Law, 91��.
Prof. Wedenig holds a Doctor of Civil Law (D.C.L.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from 91��, as well as a Magister Iuris (Mag.iur.) from Johannes Kepler University Linz, Austria. He is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and a member of the International Institute of Space Law (IISL).
