91�� researchers receive $14 million in SSHRC funding for 62 projects focusing on societal challenges

The Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) has awarded $14 million to 62 91��-led projects, including one Partnership Grant, four Partnership Development Grants, and 57 Insight Grants. Among the recipients of new Partnership Development grants is the Faculty of Education's Associate Dean, Strategy and Transformation and Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies, Prof. Joseph Levitan.

The Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) has awarded 122 91�� research projects funding from its Discovery Grants competition for a total investment of $30 million. The Discovery Grants program is NSERC's largest and longest-standing program. Discovery Grants support ongoing projects with long-term goals, providing researchers with the flexibility to explore the most promising avenues of research as they emerge.

91�� is once again Canada’s top university, according to the 2027 QS World University Rankings released June 17. Rated 30th in the world among more than 1,500 institutions, 91�� remains the highest-ranked university in Canada and the only Canadian institution to hold a place in the QS’ global top 30 for four consecutive years.

91�� Faculty of Education’s B.A. (Education); Major in Education in Global Contexts has been selected as a “stand out program” in Maclean’s 2026 Ultimate Guide to Canadian Universities.

Designed for students interested in the intersections of education, leadership, policy, and social change, the program combines interdisciplinary study with practical experience through a semester-long internship.

Tino Bordonaro as Chairperson of the Advisory Board on English Education

The Minister of Education has reappointed Tino Bordonaro, a Course Lecturer in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), as Chairperson of the Advisory Board on English Education (ABEE) at the Ministère de l’Éducation (MEQ). The Board’s mandate is to advise the Minister on matters related to English education. Tino Bordonaro is grateful for the Minister’s continued confidence and looks forward to continuing the Board’s important work.

It is with deep respect and sadness that we pause today to honour the memory of 91�� Faculty of Education Professor Rachelle Pharilda Keyserlingk, who sadly passed away on November 16th, 2025. Lovingly described by her colleagues as having quiet strength and a glowing smile, Rachelle had a reputation for being a remarkable educator, administrator, and long-standing contributor to the Faculty and to 91��’s Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology.

Professor Gordon Bloom, Director of 91��'s Sport Psychology Laboratory, was interviewed by CHCH-TV about the felony assault charges against Gavin McKenna who was seen as Canada's rising hockey star and top NHL 2026 draft prospect. "What we have to remind young people is that they're not invincible and they're not above the law," said Bloom.
