Choi\, Department of Sociology\, Western U niversity \n\nJune 9th\, 2020 at 1pm\n\nhttps://mcgill.zoom.us/j/985245111 27\n Meeting ID: 985 2451 1127\n\nSummary: The Canadian government has no p lans to release data on the race or socioeconomic status of COVID-19 patie nts. Therefore\, whether COVID-19 is disproportionately affecting certain socio-demographic groups in Canada is unknown. We fill this data void by m erging publicly available COVID-19 data with tabular census data to identi fy risk factors rendering certain geographic areas more vulnerable to COVI D-19 infections and deaths. We combine insights obtained from this analysi s with information on the socio-demographic profiles of smaller geographic units to predict and display the incidence of COVID-19 infections and dea ths in these locales. Like in the U.S.\, COVID-19 has disproportionately a ffected black and immigrant communities in Canada. COVID-19 death tolls ar e also higher in Canadian communities with higher shares of older adults. \n DTSTART:20200609T170000Z DTEND:20200609T180000Z SUMMARY:Webinar - Kate H.
