Insights into functional processing streams indicate that cort ical areas are arranged stepwise\, representing functional gradients along the cortical surface. Having been largely restricted to describing proces sing within specific sensory modalities\, how do these principles generali ze and extend to the surrounding association cortex? Building on recent wo rk characterizing a principal axis of cortical organization\, I will prese nt a line of research that investigates the role of cortical geometry in e nabling convergence across distinct modalities. By describing how the spat ial layout of the cerebral cortex shapes its function\, this line of resea rch proposes a framework for understanding structural constraints that con tribute to the integrated nature of cognition.\n DTSTART:20240604T200000Z DTEND:20240604T210000Z LOCATION:de Grandpre Communications Centre\, Montreal Neurological Institut e\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 2B4\, 3801 rue University SUMMARY:Killam Seminar Series: Cortical Gradients of Functional Integration URL:/neuro/channels/event/killam-seminar-series-cortic al-gradients-functional-integration-357405 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
