Thus\, investigating the regula tory and signaling mechanisms that control its differentiation and the pro duction of myelin is relevant to our understanding of brain development an d of adult pathologies such as multiple sclerosis. We have recently establ ished that the activity of voltage-gated Ca++ channels is crucial for the adequate migration\, proliferation and maturation of oligodendrocyte proge nitor cells (OPCs). Furthermore\, we have found that voltage-gated Ca++ ch annels that function in synaptic communication between neurons also mediat e synaptic signaling between neurons and OPCs. Thus\, we hypothesize that voltage-gated Ca++ channels are central components of OPC-neuronal synapse s and are the principal ion channels mediating activity-dependent myelinat ion.\n\n\nSupported by the generosity of the Killam Trusts \, The Neuro’s Killam Seminar series hosts outstanding guest speakers whose research is o f interest to the scientific community at The Neuro and 91ºÚÁÏÍø. \n DTSTART:20220208T210000Z DTEND:20220208T220000Z SUMMARY:Killam Seminar Series presents 'Modulation of oligodendrocyte devel opment and myelination by voltage-gated Ca++ channels' URL:/neuro/channels/event/killam-seminar-series-presen ts-modulation-oligodendrocyte-development-and-myelination-voltage-gated-33 5299 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
