What is a Local Wellness Advisor (LWA)?

LWA’s are trained mental health clinicians (e.g. social worker) embedded within faculties and services to orient and connect students with the appropriate support resource - on or off-campus - for their unique situation. We also facilitate wellness programming tailored to the faculty or identified community and work with departments on wellness awareness, prevention and early intervention. Furthermore, LWAs also offer targeted mental health workshops, wellness outreach and one-on-one appointments.

How does a student meet with you?

1:1 appointment

  • Students who would like to meet with me for a 1:1 appointment can ! Please know that new appointments are always added and you can book an appointment within 3-week availability window. These appointments could be in-person or remote.

What to expect during your appointment with your LWA?

Appointments are up to 90 minutes long, including time to complete consent and intake forms.

During the first consultation appointment, your LWA will:

  1. Conduct an assessment
  2. Provide a brief intervention
  3. And develop a wellness plan with you based on your needs

The goal is to provide you with guidance, information and coaching.

Please note that your LWA cannot refer you directly to a psychiatrist. They can connect you to a GP if a referral to a psychiatrist is necessary.

Have a specific concern, or looking for resources?

  • 1:1 support is available with your LWA. These appointments are also available throughout the summer for any student physically located in Quebec.
