It argues that the received history of the Montreal scene has obsc ured examples of collaboration between Anglophone and Francophone musician s because of its focus on the linguistic divide. It also looks at issues o f gender inequality in the scene\, a particularly emotional topic in the a ftermath of allegations of sexual misconduct against Arcade Fire’s Win But ler (Hogan 2022). Finally\, it highlights the challenges faced by Black pe ople and immigrants in an overwhelmingly white scene. Drawing from the wor k of Kruse (2003)\, Bannister (2006)\, and Leonard (2017) as well as inter views with participants\, this paper contributes new material to the discu ssion of scenes by reflecting on their dual nature as both convivial and t ightly bounded spaces.\n\nBruno Coulombe is a PhD student in Musicology at 91ºÚÁÏÍø. His thesis\, which explores the role of storytelling a nd media narratives in the received history of the Montreal music scene of the 2000s\, is supervised by David Brackett. He currently teaches at the École de musique Vincent-d’Indy in Montreal. A lso a music critic\, he sits on the jury for the Polaris Prize\, awarded e ach year to the best Canadian album.\n DTSTART:20240327T203000Z DTEND:20240327T220000Z LOCATION:A-832\, Elizabeth Wirth Music Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1E3\, 527 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Doctoral Colloquium (Music) | Bruno Coulombe URL:/music/channels/event/doctoral-colloquium-music-br uno-coulombe-354604 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
