What kind of role can performance science have in helping performers and institutions naviga te the challenges of the music industry in the current landscape? How is p erformance science relevant and applicable to music education\, research a nd performance contexts? These are some of questions that start many conve rsations between researchers\, performers\, managers\, educators\, practit ioners\, and other curious people when we talk about performance science.  \n\n In this presentation\, I will offer an overview of the field of perfor mance science\, including current and new directions in research and appli cation. I will share some examples of applied performance science in a ran ge of performance contexts drawing from my own experience working with mus ic students\, professional musicians\, and music institutions. Finally\, I will share some reflections on the value of applied performance science a s an approach to support artistic excellence\, sustainable careers in the music industry and healthy practices that can reinforce the value of music making in a complex and volatile landscape.  \n \n\n \n Biography:\n\n Lilian a Araújo recently joined the Schulich School of Music of 91ºÚÁÏÍø as Professor of Performance Science\, after almost 10 years working as le cturer\, researcher\, and program leader in the conservatoire sector in th e UK. Liliana worked at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance\, a t the Royal College of Music (Centre for Performance Science) and was gues t lecturer in Performing Arts Medicine at University College of London\, h aving published and presented her work internationally. Liliana works clos ely with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra (UK) as consultant for culture change and performers’ wellbeing.
