 many ways\, is an experience where senses and physicality play a crucial p
 art. My philosophy when teaching music is to make sure young musicians bui
 ld their craft the right way\, from good and strong fundamentals of course
 \, but also and most importantly from simple rhythmic\, melodic and vocal 
 routines based on oral tradition and physical sensations. The instrument s
 hould be the conduit of a musician's internal voice\, in the same way as s
 peech is the materialization of our ideas. We will talk about the many ana
 logies between improvisation and language\, leading to the conclusion that
  every musician can and should improvise\, regardless of style.\n\n												 \n											\n										\n
 									\n								\n							\n						\n					\n				\n			\n		\n\n		Biography:\n\n		Jean-Michel Pilc is a jazz pianist & compo
 ser\, and became Professor of Jazz & Improvisation at the Schulich School 
 of Music of 91ºÚÁÏÍø in 2015\, after spending 20 years in New Yor
 k. He teaches improvisation to jazz majors on all instruments\, and also g
 ives a seminar on improvisation in all styles to jazz and classical studen
 ts. He recently led a Montreal-based 3-year research project called Improv
 isation Workshop Project (funded by FRQSC) with musicians of all backgroun
