More than 10 years after this change\, in ternational Canadianists have a varied teaching and research agenda. Durin g this time\, Canadian society grappled with many significant milestones\, including the calls to actions from the Truth and Reconciliation Commissi on of Canada. In this lecture\, Jean Michel will explore the current teach ing and research agendas of international Canadianists based on survey and interview findings. Amid the lack of federal support to cultural diplomac y mechanisms like “Understanding Canada\,” the field’s focus on Canada’s r elationship to Indigenous Peoples\; multiculturalism\, immigration and div ersity\; and the environment come with opportunities\, challenges and supp ort needs that will also be discussed.\n\nJean Michel Montsion is a Profes sor in the Canadian Studies Program\, Department of Social and Global Stud ies\, Glendon College\, York University. He also serves as the Director of the Robarts Centre for Canadian Studies at York. His research interests i nclude Canadian gateway cities\, student migration and the study of Canada abroad. He is currently the principal investigator on the SSHRC Partnersh ip Development Grant examining the current state of the network of interna tional Canadian Studies.\n\nThe lecture will be followed by a Q&A and rece ption. This event is free and open to public\; registration is required vi a Eventbrite.\n\nThe Eakin Lecture series is bi-annually organized by the 91 Institute for the Study of Canada\, as a part of the Eakin Visiting Fellowship in Canadian Studies established by the Eakin family in memory of William R. Eakin.
