Aengus Bridgman on How Algorithms Perpetuate Disinformation | Savoir média

MEO Director Aengus Bridgman was recently featured in Savoir média's digital series La guerre des cerveaux (War of the Mind), in an episode titled, Les algorithmes comme armes de guerres (Algorithms as weapons of war).

Bridgman explained that attention now functions as a form of currency, with various actors competing for our time and engagement online. He also clarified the crucial distinction between disinformation and simply being misinformed: disinformation involves the deliberate spread of false information with the intent to persuade audiences that it is true. Bridgman argues that influencers now play a crucial role in shaping public opinion, and online audiences may not always realize when an influencer has financial motivations to spread certain narratives, citing Tenet Media as an example.
