While classical modal anal ysis for linear systems relies on eigenvalue analysis\, nonlinear dynamica l systems lack superposition and the notion of modes of vibration has been extended to the concept of nonlinear normal modes which are seen as one-p arameter continuous families of periodic motions of the investigated syste m. It is known that nonlinear normal modes feature energy-dependent natura l frequencies. The presentation will focus on a subclass of mechanical sys tems where the nonlinearity stems from unilateral contact and frictional o ccurrences.
