If G happens to be the fun damental group of a complex projective manifold\, rigid representations ar e conjectured (by Carlos Simpson) to be of geometric origin. In this talk I will outline the basic properties of rigid local systems and discuss sev eral consequences of Simpson‘s conjecture. I will then outline recent prog ress on these questions (joint work with Hélène Esnault) and briefly menti on applications to geometry and number theory such as the recent resolutio n of the André-Oort conjecture by Pila-Shankar-Tsimerman. To receive the a nnouncements with the Zoom link\, please subscribe once to the lists of yo ur choice\n\nVenue\n\nHybride - CRM\, Salle / Room 5340\, Pavillon André A isenstadt / Zoom (voir survol/ see overview)\n DTSTART:20230224T203000Z DTEND:20230224T213000Z SUMMARY:Michael Groechenig (University of Toronto) URL:/mathstat/channels/event/michael-groechenig-univer sity-toronto-346320 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
