If one instead has snapshots of a system\, i.e. data\, one can make a mor e educated guess at the true state by incorporating the data via data assi milation. Many of the most popular data assimilation methods were develope d for general physical systems\, not just turbulent flows or chaotic syste ms. However\, in the context of fluids\, data assimilation works better th an would be anticipated for a general physical system. In particular\, tur bulent fluid flows have been proven to have the property that\, given enou gh perfect observations\, one can recover the full state irrespective of t he choice of initial condition. This property is surprisingly unique to tu rbulent fluid flows\, a consequence of their finite dimensionality. In thi s presentation\, we will discuss the continuous data assimilation algorith m that was used to prove the convergence in the original\, perfect data se tting\, present various robustness results of the continuous data assimila tion algorithm\, and discuss how continuous data assimilation can be used to identify and correct model error. Moreover\, we will highlight the effo rts of our other current research into long-standing problems in the stabi lity of fluid flows (a very interesting problem that has proven\, as expec ted\, very challenging)\, and how we have discovered some very interesting connections to our data assimilation research.\n DTSTART:20230206T213000Z DTEND:20230206T223000Z LOCATION:Room 1104\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Elizabeth Carlson (University of Victoria) URL:/mathstat/channels/event/elizabeth-carlson-univers ity-victoria-345162 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
