DESCRIPTION:Description\n\n\n\n \n\nThe 2021 Fields Medal Symposium will ho
 nour the work and achievements of Peter Scholze. At 24\, Scholze became th
 e youngest full professor in Germany when he took up a teaching post at th
 e University of Bonn. He was awarded the Fields Medal in 2018 at the age o
 f 29\, making him one of the youngest medallists in the history of the awa
 rd.\n\nScholze’s research has great range\, but his work has had particula
 r impact on arithmetic geometry and its applications. He first gained noti
 ce as a graduate student for finding proofs to several fundamental theorem
 s in more compact form. His PhD thesis on perfectoid spaces\, which he cre
 ated as a unifying concept\, solidified his reputation as “a rare talent t
 hat only emerges every few decades.”\n\nRecently\, Scholze has been in the
  news for his astonishing result that established real functional analysis
  still works if you replace topological spaces with condensed sets\, a pro
 of he developed in less than a week. Join us for what promises to be an il
 luminating week of mathematical discovery.\n\nThe 2021 Fields Medal Sympos
 ium will take place online and will consist of:\n\n\n	Public Opening Lectur
 e: October 25\, 2021\n	Scientific Program: October 25 – 28\, 2021\n\n\nThe 
 Public Opening will feature an introduction to Peter Scholze's work by Jar
 ed Weinstein (Boston University)\, a one-on-one chat with Peter and Megumi
  Harada (McMaster University)\, and a panel of distinguished mathematician
 s discussing his work. Welcome and introductions will be given by guests f
 rom academia and government. Both the Public Opening and Scientific Progra
 m are open to the public and free of charge\, but attendees must register 
 beforehand. The entire Symposium will be streamed live\, then will be made
  available on our website and YouTube channel at a later date.\n\nRegistra
