Escher’s “impossible stairc ase”). I will describe a short article of Penrose\, titled “On the Cohomol ogy of Impossible Figures”\, which describes how the failure of these shap es to exist in space can be measured using Čech cohomology. No knowledge o f topology is assumed.\n\n \n\nThis seminar was made possible by funding f rom the 91 mathematics and statistics department\, PGSS\, and GSAMS.\n DTSTART:20180413T160000Z DTEND:20180413T160000Z LOCATION:Graduate Lounge\, BURN 1024/1025\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montr eal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Graduate Student Seminar - Adam Artymowicz URL:/mathstat/channels/event/graduate-student-seminar- adam-artymowicz-286530 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
