 ces\n\nAbstract: Persistence modules and barcodes provide a framework whic
 h can be used to systematically study homologies of sublevel sets of a Mor
 se function on a smooth manifold. We will review basics of the theory and 
 show that the barcode associated to a linear combination of Laplace-Beltra
 mi eigenfunctions on a smooth surface satisfies certain restrictions. Appl
 ications to C^0-approximation of a function by linear combinations of Lapl
 ace-Beltrami eigenfunctions will also be discussed. The talk is based on a
  joint work with Iosif Polterovich and Leonid Polterovich.\n
