 dia University\n\nThere is massive amount of real-time data collected on f
 arms through different means about weather and soil conditions\, water use
 \, equipment\, seeds\, fertilizer usage\, etc. Big data analytics could ge
 nerate prescriptions for plantation and predictive models for yield estima
 tion to help farmers move beyond productivity targets and towards achievin
 g further cost efficiency\, accuracy\, and environmental safety in crop pr
 oduction. In this talk\, an overview of big data analytics is presented fo
 llowed by examples of using descriptive\, predictive\, prescriptive analyt
 ics in various farming practices\, their benefits and challenges. This wil
 l be further supported by evidence from the presenter’s current and propos
 ed research activities.\n\nABOUT THE AUTHOR\n\nDr. Fereshteh Mafakheri is 
 a faculty member at Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineerin
 g. Her research focuses on smart/data-driven production and logistics\, wi
 th an emphasis on using data analytics in agri-biomass energy production. 
 Fereshteh’s research has been funded by NSERC and FRQNT. She holds an NSER
 C discovery grant on “Coordinated Sourcing\, Logistics\, and Production of
  Agri-Biomass Energy for Northern Communities”. Dr. Mafakheri received her
  PhD from the University of Montreal in Decision Sciences\, and holds Mast
 er’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Industrial Engineering.\n\nEVERYONE IS WELC
