 mental criteria of the processes need to be considered.  Rice processing i
 s energy intensive and produces large amounts of by-products\, including r
 ice husk that accounts for more than 20% of the paddy by weight\, and is c
 urrently an underutilized waste that is discarded\, endangering the ecosys
 tems and the health of the rural communities. Engelberg and Milltop mill p
 rocessed rice husks are the most abundant and most unused by-products of r
 ice processing in sub-Saharan Africa. ...This work initially studied the e
 xisting practices to improve the sustainability of rice processing in sub-
 Saharan Africa which included: utilization of waste heat from the diesel e
 ngines that drive the mills for improved drying and temperature increase o
 f pre-soaking through utilization of solar energy\, and also to use the he
 at content of rice husk as an alternative energy source to firewood.\n\nEv
