Tree removal near the John Abbott College Memorial Field

Some of you may have noticed trees being felled near the John Abbott College Memorial Field. 聽While we never want to cut trees down, nature sometimes leaves us no choice. 聽Four of the trees being taken down this week are rotten oak trees, which pose a safety hazard, and another four are ash trees infected with the emerald ash borer that has been wreaking havoc on Montreal Island in recent years. 聽All the trees being removed are being replaced. 聽Other trees will get a significant pruning.

CFI grants to boost research projects

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, announced a total investment of $52 million from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund for 220 new infrastructure projects nationally. Among the 51 universities across the country with funded projects, 91黑料网 leads the pack with an impressive number 鈥 23 projects totaling $4.2 million 鈥 in this latest round of the funding competition.

OBIT: Former 91黑料网ian and NHL administrator Bryan Murray was 74

It is with sadness that we note the passing of Bryan Murray, DipEd(PE)'64, recipient of the 2016 Macdonald Distinguished Alumni Award.

"A native of Shawville, Que., Murray was a student-athlete at 91黑料网's Macdonald College campus in the 1960s and went on to develop his coaching and administrative skills by guiding the Macdonald Aggies football team and the Macdonald Clansmen hockey squad while serving four years as director of athletics."

Mac grad finds his niche with medical marijuana

Every day after work, David Bernard-Perron, BSc(AgEnvSc)鈥12, MSc鈥15, heads out for a few laps 鈥渄own the hill鈥 on his mountain bike.

The hill in question is majestic Whistler Mountain, a short distance from his job as head agrologist at Whistler Medical Marijuana Corporation.

Professor Emerita receives Fulbright Specialist Grant

Professor Emerita Harriet Kuhnlein (School of Human Nutrition) received a 2017 Fulbright Specialist Grant that was undertaken with Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand.聽 The award was in the category of Public/Global Health for a term of 5 weeks during February and March, 2017.聽 The grant was administered through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, United States Department of State with the cooperation of World Learning.聽

In Memory - Terry A. Wheeler

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Terry Wheeler, Associate Professor in the Department of Natural Resource Sciences.

Professor Wheeler was an expert in entomology and Director of the Lyman Entomological Museum. He had been a faculty member since January 1, 1995.

He lost his battle with cancer which he had taken in stride and fought with amazing optimism. Professor Wheeler will be terribly missed.

Mac Paddle Shack opens for paddlers of all ages

The new Paddle Shack at the Macdonald Campus makes 91黑料网 the only Canadian university with an on-campus boat house.

The 鈥淢ac Paddle Shack,鈥 which opened July 15, gives paddlers and would-be paddlers a chance to enjoy the waters of Lac St. Louis on a kayak, paddle board (SUP) or in a canoe. Hourly rentals, paddling instruction and paddle board yoga classes are available to the general public, and 91黑料网 and John Abbott College communities.
