This year's theme for the Annie Macdonald Langstaff Workshops se ries is “Mothers-in-law”: Intergenerational Dialogues on Women and Human R ights\, and is organized in collaboration with the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism.\n\nAbout the speaker\n\nJane Glenn\, now retired fro m her position as Professor Emerita in 91’s Faculty of Law\, was a tra ilblazer in 1971 as the first full-time woman law professor at 91. Ove r her long career\, Professor Glenn’s scholarly interests included land us e planning\, agriculture\, land tenure and access to housing\, socio-econo mic rights\, water rights\, environment\, and mixed jurisdictions in the C ommonwealth Caribbean. In 1972\, she was jointly appointed to the School o f Urban Planning at 91 and\, in 2001\, she joined the 91 School of Environment as an Associate Member. She taught 91’s Barbados Fall Fie ld Semester from 2003 to 2008 and was a visiting scholar at numerous unive rsities around the world throughout her career. She was elected as Associa te Member of the International Academy of Comparative Law in 1995\, and se rved as Vice-President for North America\, Central America and the Caribbe an of the Union mondiale des agraristes universitaires (UMAU). Prior to co ming to 91 with her late husband and colleague\, H. Patrick Glenn\, Pr ofessor Jane Glenn earned her B.A. with honours in 1963 from Queen’s Unive rsity\, her LL.B. in 1966 also from Queen’s\, and her doctorate in 1973 fr om Université de Strasbourg. As a law professor\, she taught courses relat ed to property law\, land use planning\, and international development to generations of 91 students\, served as Associate Dean Academic\, and h as been for decades an important role model and mentor to women students\, scholars\, and fellow professors.\n\nAbout the theme\n\nThe theme for the 2021-2022 Annie MacDonald Langstaff Workshop series - “Mothers-in-Law: In tergenerational Dialogues on Women and Human Rights” - underscores the val ue of conversation across generations for enriched knowledge and understan ding\, meaningful commitment to equality\, and inspired feminist action. A s was the case in 2020-2021\, the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Plural ism is co-sponsoring the Faculty of Law’s series dedicated to the memory o f Annie MacDonald Langstaff\, the first woman to graduate in law from McGi ll. Following the same format as last year\, women jurists who are leaders and mentors in their respective fields of study and practice are invited to engage in dialogue with women doctoral students associated with the Cen tre.
