Since 2002 she has been the Chairperson of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) which holds human rights viola tors accountable and sets the human rights agenda in Afghanistan. Alongsid e this\, Dr. Samar is the Chairperson of the Commission for the Prevention of Torture and was the Chairperson of Asia Pacific Forum of National Huma n Rights Institutions (APF).\n\nDr. Sally Armstrong is a human rights acti vist\, journalist and award-winning author. She has covered stories about women and girls in zones of conflict all over the world. From Bosnia and S omalia to the Middle East\, Rwanda\, Congo\, Afghanistan\, South Sudan and Iraq\, her eyewitness reports have earned her several awards\, including the Gold Award from the National Magazine Awards Foundation and the Author 's Award from the Foundation for the Advancement of Canadian Letters. She received the Amnesty International Canada Media Award in 2000\, 2002\, 201 1 and again in 2017.
