Smith is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Alberta\, where she teaches in the fields of international relations\, comparative politics\, and gender and politics. Her current research\, teaching\, and scholarship explore questions of equ ity and antiracism in higher education\, the coloniality of knowledge and decolonizing the curriculum\, and nuances of blackness in the academy. Dr. Smith is the coauthored of The Equity Myth: Racialization and Indigeneity at Canadian Universities (UBC Press 2017)\, and the editor or co-editor o f six books\, including Critical Concepts: An Introduction to Politics (20 13\, with Janine Brodie and Sandra Rein)\, Securing Africa: Post 9/11 Disc ourses on Terrorism (2010) and States of Race: Critical Race Feminism in t he 21st Century (2010\, with Sherene Razack and Sunera Thobani).\n\nOver t he past two decades Dr. Smith has worked to advance equity in higher educa tion as Vice President Equity Issues for the Canadian Federation for the H umanities and Social Sciences\, on CAUT’s Racialized Academic Staff Workin g Group\, and as the faculty association’s Equity Advisor. Currently she i s President of the Academic Women’s Association at the University of Alber ta\, and nationally serves on the Canada Research Chairs Program Advisory Committee on Equity Diversity and Inclusion Policy.
