He is a qualified German lawyer and is admitted to the bar in Hamburg. Prior to joining LES\, he worked as a research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and Internatio nal Private Law in Hamburg (1998-2004) and was appointed as an assistant p rofessor at the HEC School of Management\, Paris (2004-2008).\n\nDr. Klein heisterkamp is currently working on an intellectual history of internation al arbitration\, which analyses the genealogy\, the competition and cross- fertilization of conceptions of\, and discourses on\, arbitration in vario us jurisdictions\, its role as a tool of self-regulation of the commercial world and its relation to the State in a globalized economy. He co-heads the LSE Transnational Law Project and his research focuses mainly on inter national contracts\, with special emphasis on arbitration\, conflict of la ws\, and comparative law.
