Kingsley will discuss the topic of “Election law and the Charter: Jurisp rudential Developments and Current Issues”. In 1982\, article 3 of the Cha rter formalized the right to vote in Canada. After more than 30 years of C harter jurisprudence\, what has been the practical impact of section 3 on the Canadian electoral process? Which current issues might affect Canadian s’ right to vote? Mr. Kinglsey will examine how the Supreme Court’s sectio n 3 jurisprudence has influenced the Canadian electoral system\, while Mr. Mayrand will discuss current voting rights issues in Canada.\nMarc Mayran d is the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada. Before heading Elections Canad a\, Mr. Mayrand held a variety of positions in the federal public service.
