DESCRIPTION:Son Excellence\, le juge James Crawford AC\n(En anglais seuleme
 nt) James Crawford AC\, FBA was elected a Judge of the International Court
  of Justice in The Hague in November 2014 and took up this position in Feb
 ruary 2015 for a 9-year term. Previously he was Whewell Professor of Inter
 national Law at the University of Cambridge\; he has also held chairs at A
 delaide\, Sydney and LaTrobe Universities in Australia and as Chang Jiang 
 Distinguished Professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University\, PRC. He was respons
 ible for the ILC’s work on the International Criminal Court (1994) and for
  the second reading of the ILC Articles on State Responsibility (2001).\nD
 uring his practicing career\, he appeared as counsel in some 100 cases bef
 ore the International Court of Justice and other international tribunals. 
 He has also been an active arbitrator both in inter-state and investment t
 reaty disputes. His publications include The Creation of States in Interna
 tional Law (2nd ed.\, 2006)\; Brownlie’s Principles of Public Internationa
 l Law (8th ed.\, 2012)\; State Responsibility: The General Part (2013)\, a
 nd Chance\, Order\, Change: The Course of International Law (2014).\nÀ pro

 rity\, responsibility and fraternity were important values to the Honourab
 le Judge Charles D. Gonthier (1928-2009)\, and he supported research\, edu
 cation and practical activities to promote sustainable development\, in it
 s economic\, environmental and social dimensions. The legacy of values he 
 embraced is kept alive through the Gonthier Endowment Fund established in 
 his name\, to support a new series of biennial Lectures.\nYou are invited 
 to join a select group of justices\, deans\, leaders\, jurists and others 
 from across Canada and the world\, eager to broaden their minds on emergin
 g law\, justice and sustainability concerns\, at the inaugural Charles D G
