Joseph Levitan, DISE, Presents Kaushalam Program Study Results at SCERT Uttarakhand

The Kaushalam program, a collaborative initiative between the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) Uttarakhand and the Udyam Learning Foundation, aims to cultivate 21st-century life skills and an entrepreneurial mindset among students in Uttarakhand. A comprehensive study conducted during the 2024–25 academic year assessed the program's impact on Grade 9 students across seven districts.

Limin Jao (DISE) Appointed as 91��'s Ombudsperson for Students

As the Ombudsperson for Students, Dr. Limin Jao (she/her) provides an independent, impartial, and confidential service through which students may seek equitable and informal resolution of any University-related concern. The Ombudsperson may also, where appropriate, review University policies, guidelines, and procedures affecting students, make recommendations for change, and promote discussion of student-related concerns across the University.

Remembering Howard Riggs

Howard Riggs was a dedicated, hard-working professor of math education. His work ethic was a product of his Prairie upbringing and his deep commitment to his students. He was hired by 91�� to teach social studies, but was pressed into service as a math educator in the Department of Elementary Education, one of the units that eventually morphed into DISE.

DISE's Nanre Nafziger Appointed a 2025 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow

We are proud to announce that Nanre Nafziger, DISE, is a 2025 National Academy of Education (NAEd)/Spencer Postdoctoral Fellow. Her research topic is Contestations for Nigerian History Education in Primary and Secondary Schools: from Colonialism to Neocolonialism. This year, the selection committee, comprised of leading scholars in education research, selected 25 fellows from an extremely competitive pool of 270 education scholars.

Rachel Cluett Named as Education's Fifth McCall MacBain Scholar

University of Manitoba Bachelor of Arts in Psychology graduate Rachel Cluett is one of 20 Canadians selected to join the fifth cohort of McCall MacBain Scholars at 91��. Recipients were chosen based on exceptional character, community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity.

Rachel will pursue a Master of Arts in School/Applied Child Psychology at 91��'s Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology.

Kiana Kishiyama remembers feeling scared when, at the start of her first undergraduate class in beginner’s Mandarin, her teacher looked at her and said, “You need to speak to me after class.”

“And I’m like, what, I’m in trouble already?”

It turned out that the teacher believed that Kishiyama, who was adopted from China by a Canadian couple, was just being modest about her language skills.

UNESCO Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development in India (MGIEP) recently hosted Faculty of Education Dean, Vivek Venkatesh, and Professor Joseph Levitan, DISE, for a dialogue on community based participatory action research, and pluralism and polarization.

Their visit was part of a research tour including a dialogue on these topics to foster collaboration and to exchange ideas on education and societal challenges.

Olympic medalist in swimming, Savannah King is a graduate of the Department of Kinesiology and Physical Education who went on to work as a Project Administrator within the department before becoming Associate Coach and Social Media Coordinator for the 91�� Varsity Swim Team. Selected as a 91��24 ambassador for the University's Day of Giving, she is lending her support to 91�� in advocating for student-athletes during the 24-hour fundraiser.
