  for a conversation with the visual artist Sammy Baloji. Introduced and mo
 derated by Prof. Pedro Monaville (History and Classical Studies)\, the con
 versation will center on Baloji and Monaville's ongoing collaboration on t
 he history of the Congo in the world in the 20th Century.\n\nThe event wil
 l take place from 4:00 to 5:30pm in Leacock 738.\n\nArtist's short bio: \n
 	Sammy Baloji is a visual artist whose work explores questions related to h
 istorical memory in the Democratic Republic of Congo\, with a strong focus
  on the history and legacy of colonial extractivism in Katanga. Baloji wor
 ks across photography\, film\, sculpture\, and installation. A Chevalier d
 es Arts et des Lettres\, he has received numerous fellowships\, awards and
  distinctions\, notably at the African Photography Encounters of Bamako an
 d the Dakar Biennale\, and was a laureate of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé 
 Arts Initiative. In 2019-2020\, he was a resident of the French Academy of
  Rome – Villa Medici. His most recent personal exhibitions include Echoes 
 of History\, Shadows of Progress at the EMST in Athens (2025)\, his solo e
 xhibition at Goldsmiths CCA (2024)\, K(C)ongo\, Fragments of Interlaced Di
 alogues\, Palazzo Pitti\, Florence (2022) and Beaux-Arts de Paris (2021). 
 He is the co-founder of the Rencontres Picha/Biennale de Lubumbashi.\n
