Understanding the dynamics of these systems\, particularly the phenology (i.e.\, the lea f out\, timing of maximum greenness and senescence) of understory vegetati on such as sedges\, mosses\, and shrubs\, is essential for tracking their functioning.\n\n \n\nTo address this\, The PeatPic Project\, a community-b ased citizen science initiative\, was developed\, using smartphone-based m ethods to monitor peatland vegetation. Contributions from 27 sites across 10 countries during 2021 and 2022 revealed significant variations in leaf greenness indices\, such as the timing of peak greenness\, across biomes. \n\n \n\nBuilding on the success of The PeatPic Project\, this expanded in to Tracking the Colour of Peatlands\, a broader community-based effort to monitor vegetation phenology and assess peatland health across diverse lan dscapes. This seminar will explore how community science can provide usefu l data on peatland functioning and providing critical insights for peatlan d conservation\, management and restoration efforts.\n DTSTART:20250929T140000Z DTEND:20250929T150000Z LOCATION:Room 426\, Burnside Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0B9\, 805 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Exploring peatland phenology: tracking the colour of peatlands usin g community science (Scott Davidson\, UQAM) URL:/geography/channels/event/exploring-peatland-pheno logy-tracking-colour-peatlands-using-community-science-scott-davidson-uqam -366877 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
