Standing orders are signed instr uctions of a provider which describe the parameters of specified situation s under which the nurse may act to carry out specific orders for a patient presenting symptoms or needs addressed in the standing orders. Nurse pres cribing (NP) came into effect in Quebec on January 11\, 2016. Nurses are n ow allowed to prescribe in certain clinical situations. The differences be tween standing orders and nurse prescribing will be explained\; the semina r will present the preliminary results of a research study of nurse prescr ibing. Objectives of the study: 1) to describe nurse prescribing and expla in how it was implemented\; 2) to identify the factors that limit or facil itate use of the right to prescribe.
