Understanding risk factors for suicide and suicidal beha viour is essential to inform prevention. Most previous research has invest igated the role of proximal (or precipitating) risk factors\, such as econ omic breakdown\, relational problems\, and psychopathology. However\, beyo nd the documented influence of such proximal risk factors\, a growing body of research suggests that distal factors occurring during the perinatal a nd early childhood periods may also increase vulnerability to suicide over the lifespan\, consistent with the Developmental Origins of Health and Di seases hypothesis. This talk will present some results of an ongoing resea rch program that aims at clarifying the role of early-life risk factors on later suicide risk using longitudinal studies and genetically informed ap proaches.\n\nLearning Objectives\n\nBy the end of this session\, attendees will:\n\n\n Understanding suicide from the life-course perspective\;\n Lear ning about the contribution of perinatal risk factors to suicide-related o utcomes\;\n Discussing the evidence supporting causality in this associatio n.\n\n\nSpeaker Bio\n\nMassimiliano Orri is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at 91ºÚÁÏÍø\, and an Associate Member of the Department of Epidemiology\, Biostatistics\, and Occupational Health at 91ºÚÁÏÍø. His research builds on several disciplines including psychiatric epidemiology\, developmental psychopathology\, and behavioral genetics to understand the risk factors of suicide across the lifespan. H e also works as a clinical psychologist at the Depressive and Suicide Diso rders Program of the Douglas Institute.\n DTSTART:20231120T210000Z DTEND:20231120T220000Z SUMMARY:Early-life risk factors for suicidal behavior: a life-course perspe ctive URL:/epi-biostat-occh/channels/event/early-life-risk-f actors-suicidal-behavior-life-course-perspective-352163 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
