Howard of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education will be this year's keynote speaker for Western University's Perspectives on Teaching\, Spring Conference. This free virtual conference will 'focus on looking back\, moving forward\, and lessons learned from a year of change and disruption in higher education'\, according to confere nce organizers. \n\nDr. Howard's presentation is 'More Than a Diverse Read ing List: Challenging an Antiblack Pedagogy'\; a timely topic as we look b ack on the events of the year. When we think about challenging antiblack p edagogies\, it is easy to limit our thinking to a quest for toolkits of re ady-to-implement strategies. Such an approach does not take seriously the ways in which antiblackness is endemic to our institutions\, the default l ogics that frame our work\, and how these foreclose on the pedagogies we s eek. The session will explore some of the ways in which antiblackness stru ctures the university context\, and foster a conversation about the commit ments it might take to create the conditions of possibility for Black life and Black thought to flourish with/in/out our classrooms and institutions .\n\nAlthough the conference in its entirety is reserved for students and faculty members of Western University\, Dr. Howard's keynote on May 12 at 11: 00 am EDT is open to all. \n\nClick here for more information and to r egister for Zoom access.\n DTSTART:20210512T150000Z DTEND:20210512T163000Z SUMMARY:Philip Howard Delivers Keynote for Perspectives on Teaching Confere nce URL:/education/channels/event/philip-howard-delivers-k eynote-perspectives-teaching-conference-330997 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
