Hailing from around the world, 91’s valedictorians are a diverse, multitalented group. When they came to the University, they brought with them their unique backgrounds, passions, and ambitions. While they all praise the education they received at 91, one thing is certain, the University has benefitted just as much for having them as valuable, contributing members of our community.

Dr. Marie-Hélène Pennestri's Words of Wisdom for the Class of 2021

Winners for the Faculty of Education Distinguished Teaching Award usually accept their award onstage as part of the 91 convocation ceremonies. As the June 2021 ceremonies were done by video, this year's award recipient, Dr. Marie-Hélène Pennestri, was asked to submit a short acceptance speech addressing the Class of 2021.

Dennis Wendt Awarded CIHR Knowledge Synthesis Grant

Faculty of Education Statement: Victims of the Kamloops Residential School

On behalf of the members of 91 Faculty of Education, we mourn the tragic loss of 215 Indigenous children who were found in a mass grave at the site of a former residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia. Today, 91 lowers its flags in recognition of this tragedy, and we at the Faculty echo the sentiments of the 91 Provost. As our academics, staff, students, and alumni grieve together, we also stand together in support of our Indigenous community members.

In Memoriam: Dr. Aziz Choudry

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the untimely passing of Dr. Aziz Choudry. Originally from New Zealand, Aziz joined us at 91 in 2008 and was an Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education until recently when he became a Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg’s Faculty of Education.

Celebrating International Day of Families

May 15 is International Day of Families. 

Families and New Technologies is the theme chosen by the United Nations for this year’s International Day of Families.

Philip Howard Delivers Keynote for Perspectives on Teaching Conference

Dr. Philip S.S. Howard of the Department of Integrated Studies in Education will be this year's keynote speaker for Western University's Perspectives on Teaching, Spring Conference. This free virtual conference will "focus on looking back, moving forward, and lessons learned from a year of change and disruption in higher education", according to conference organizers.

Media Spotlight – Annie Savard, DISE, Interviewed in the Times Colonist

Associate Professor Annie Savard (Department of Integrated Studies in Education) was recently interviewed by the Times Colonist, a BC-based publication, about how Canadian students are performing in math­ematics. Savard "...points out Quebec teachers have a clearer understanding of 'didactic' instruction, a concept championed in France and French-speaking countries. 'Knowing the content of the course isn’t enough,' Savard says. 'You need what we call didactic [teaching].

Call for Survey Participants: Parenting Behaviours and Associations with Mental Health and Well-Being

The ReACT lab is looking for participants in Canada who are at least 18 years old to complete a survey about parenting behaviours and its associations with mental health, and well-being.

The survey takes approximately 15-20 minutes to complete and you can choose to enter into a random draw for the chance to win 1 of 2 cash prizes of $50 at the end of the survey. The survey is available in English and French.

Participatory Research in Education and Agency in Mali (PREAM) Project Launches for Adolescents in the Segou an Mopti Regions

PREAM is a 3 year international collaboration between 91 and the Université des Lettres et Sciences Humaines de Bamako (ULSHB) in close collaboration with Plan International Canada and Plan International Mali who are implementing an education in emergencies program.
