Specifically\, I argue that specialize d portfolio built with network closure is helpful for creatives’ success i n the ever-changing creative markets through resilient survival. I also th eorize that generalized expertise developed through network brokerage is h elpful for creatives’ market success but through a different mechanism\, w hereby those creatives are enabled with enhanced creativity. Supporting ev idence comes from examining the careers of Korean popular music songwriter s\, freelancers who need to find and select projects and collaborators\, w hile seeking survival and success in the career. I find that the likelihoo d of a hit release increases with specialization in their work portfolio w hen their network closure is high but decreases when it is low\, indicatin g that both specialization in network closure and generalization in networ k brokerage are associated with higher chances of success in the market. T his evidence is supplemented with additional findings: songwriters with gr eater specialization are more likely to produce new releases and “survive” in the career especially when network closure is high\, while their highe r chance of success comes later in the career. Conversely\, songwriters wi th a more generalized portfolio and lower network closure tend to write so ngs that differ from current hits\, although writing similar songs to curr ent hits tend to higher chance of success\, in general. These show differe nt paths in which creatives succeed in their careers.\n  \n DTSTART:20260327T143000Z DTEND:20260327T160000Z LOCATION:Room 245\, Bronfman Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1G5\, 1001 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Organizational Behavior Area Research Seminar Series: Yonghoon Lee URL:/desautels/channels/event/organizational-behavior- area-research-seminar-series-yonghoon-lee-372079 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
