(1001 Sherbrooke St. West)\, Ro om 340\n\nAll are cordially invited to attend.\n\nAbstract:\n\nWe utilize granular data from the life science sector to study how VC activism affect s strategic experimentation decisions. We show that pipeline prioritizatio n\, deciding the timing and selection of projects to advance\, is prevalen t in startup growth. Despite more interactions from smaller and more focus ed VCs\, biotech startups invested by them are less likely to exit via IPO s. Consistent with such activism prematurely prioritizing the research pip eline\, startups backed by concentrated VCs exhibit slower progress in cli nical trials and tend to discontinue projects due to pipeline priority rat her than financial and quality reasons. For identification\, we use limite d partners’ adoption of ESG objectives as instruments for affected VCs’ po rtfolio attention. Lastly\, we highlight conflicting experimentation prefe rences between general partners and founding teams due to investment horiz on and portfolio cannibalization.\n DTSTART:20241129T153000Z DTEND:20241129T164500Z LOCATION:Room 340\, Bronfman Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1G5\, 1001 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Desmarais Global Finance Research Centre (DGFRC) Seminar: Xuelin Li URL:/desautels/channels/event/desmarais-global-finance -research-centre-dgfrc-seminar-xuelin-li-361355 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
