Desautels ranks #1 in Canada for research output in new national benchmark

Published: 21 July 2026

The Desautels Faculty of Management has been ranked first in Canada for research output in the 2026 CHART-Index, a new standardized benchmark developed by the University of Calgary's Haskayne School of Business. More than 20 schools, including University of Toronto's Rotman School of Management and the University of British Columbia's Sauder School of Business, are included in the benchmark.

The Calgary Haskayne Adaptive Research Tracker (CHART) compares Canadian business schools on a per-faculty-member basis across four dimensions: research funding, journal publications, citation and policy impact, and national honours. Publication output measures peer-reviewed articles in the Financial Times 50 list of the world's leading management journals.

On that measure, Desautels ranked first in the country, recording the highest number of FT50 publications per faculty member of any Canadian business school and earning a perfect score on the pillar. The Faculty also placed first nationally for senior research honours, reflecting its concentration of Tier 1 Canada Research Chairs and Royal Society of Canada Fellows relative to its size.
